Best bubble tea shop w/out DEHP

1newyorkguy Jul 31, 2012 07:45 PM

Does anyone know any stand out bubble tea shops? Also would want to make sure they don't use DEHP--a toxic chemical that has been found in some bubble tea ingredients from Asia. On a side note, I have virtually given up buying any foodstuffs from Asia.

Bubble Queen in Richmond is a board favourite here. They serve some boba made from fresh ingredients. (You can also get it made with powder - which, I would imagine, may have DEHP).

What is the powder? Have you heard of DEHP? I just found out about it yesterday.

I hear it is in the cups and powdered mixes (probably contaminated via the plastic bags that contain them - edit: it is also used as an actual ingredient) http://www.asianjournal.ca/june%2010_...

Too bad they don't mention the brand so consumers could check if they have it. I am too lazy to do more research :-) but I do buy my jelly for bubble tea at Kuo Hua.

I second Bubble Queen. It is miles and miles ahead of any other bubble tea store (aside from ambiance)

We really like the Papaya almond milk tea (with papaya chunks on top).
