Lobster Boil

Hello!

I am throwing my first lobster boil (12-16 people) and had a few questions...

1. Is there a max # of lobsters you'd put into a pot at once?
2. Should each person get their own cup of drawn butter or is it ok to share? What about if each couple shares one?

Thanks so much!!

With that many people/lobsters, you're going to have to steam them, not boil them. As long as they are on a rack and not touching the boiling water, you can steam as many lobsters as will fit in the pot. Boiling, you'll lower the water temp and it will take forever for the water to return to a boil.

It's best for each person to get their own cup but id it's a casual thing with friends, you can certainly make do.

Your answer to #1 depends on how large the pot is.

Ditto to the pot size - you can't crowd too many lobsters in one pot because said pot will then not cook the lobsters properly & most likely will overflow.

As for butter sharing? That's pretty tacky & unsanitary - even between couples. Each diner should get their OWN butter dish.
