Good take out in "city center"
So I am in town for a few days hitting some good places (schwa, publican, kuma's) but I am being left to my own devices for a Friday night. I am staying at the W city Center and have only taxis. Is there something like a Chicago version of Russ and daughters deli or some other takeout worth bringing back to the hotel? Retail caviar, charcuterie, artisan cheeses etc....
Thanks

I would head a few blocks West to the French Market and make a bee line for Pastoral. They're not open particularly late on a Friday night (7:30 pm) but they probably have one of the strongest cheese selections in the city (if not the strongest). Staff is friendly and very well-informed -- they also have great wine, charcuterie, salads, sandwiches, etc.
The French Market has a number of other food stalls/stands, too -- I'd allow some time to poke around and see if anything else jumps out at you.

Chicago is generally considered weak for Jewish delis (different story for Polish and Italian groceries, although they tend to be on the outskirts of the city and not near where you are staying). There are places to get good takeout though.
The French Market, as mentioned, would meet your needs. Other options include: Fox and Obel is a very good gourmet grocery. The Goddess and Grocer is not too far from you. Publican Quality Meats would be a more Chicago-style option that could be considered redundant to your meal at Publican, although I would consider it a nice companion piece. In addition to taxis, from where you are staying you also have public transit options.
