Donovan's Woodside Done

Jack Donovan sold the Bayside branch to the owners of Louie's in Port Washington a few years ago.
Woodside looks to be closing soon according to the article in the Sunnyside Post.
The end of an era.

Seems two locals with ties to Donovan's have stepped in to save the joint. They've apparently bought the building, so it could be around for a long time.

I thought that was great news until I saw the new owners on NY1 saying they want to put in more sports TV. I'm very unhappy about that but I hope it will not dominate. That will really affect the character of the place.

We were in last weekend and seemed to surprise the waitress when speaking of its demise. She showed no fear and said the place has been on the market for years. So who knows.

Ah man. I've been out of NY for 25 years but Donovan's was my mom's idea of a fancy neighborhood place to take us kids (what can I say? LOL). Breaks my heart.

What a bummer. Too bad his kids or someone didn't feel able to keep it going. Hope at least the new owners are something more interesting than, oh, say a bank or a Duane Reade.

This is very sad, Donovan's is the most charming Irish pub in NYC. What an awful year with multiple restaurant closures.

Even though I don't get to Donovan's very often, I'll be sad to see it go.
But the good news is that it's probably not going anywhere soon. According to the original article "“This isn’t something that is imminent,” he stated; the process is expected to take at least a year, and no one has emerged as a potential buyer."
At the price he's asking and the current RE market, Donovan's will be there for a while.
in the meantime, I'm going to get a burger.

and I'm going to get fish and chips :) Is there any other pub in Queens that does it as well? I like Chip Shop better but it's a schlep.
