Organon Market - Chester, CT

Hi Guys!
I just visited Organon Market for the first time and wanted to put something up. Here is their website. http://organonmarket.com/ I had a pretty good experience. I went by for lunch.

The first thing I noticed was that the market itself is still pretty bare. The woman at the register told me that they are working on filling up the space, but they wanted to open up, which seemed reasonable. The products their were all nice, but significantly more expensive than other places. For example I noticed that lara bars were being sold for around $2.30 each, while at stop and shop they are $1.39 each. Of course, this is to be expect at a small local market.

The produce section looked great. Most of the produce was local and marked with its origin and farm. It all looked good and I expect I'll be using Organon to snag local produce when going to a farmer's market isn't convenient.

As for prepared foods, I was impressed with their selection. They had a bunch on entrees, salads, and pastries that were all very tempting. They also had house made sausages and a nice looking butchers case. I hope to come back someday to try their pastries and sausages. They looked great.

For my lunch I ordered the tzatziki salmon at the recommendation of the man behind the counter. As a side note, the menu was really confusing. I originally thought I was ordering a salmon and tzatziki sandwich. I wasn't upset when it wasn't, because it was great! It was a cold section of poached (I think) salmon filet. it was topped with really great tzatziki and artfully arranged cucumbers. It came with a piece of cranberry walnut bread and a tub of cut up melon. The melon was really ripe and sweet. The bread was good, but it wish they had toasted it. The salmon was awesome! It was cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly and the sauce on top was great. the cucumbers gave it great crunch. However, for 7.87, I think it should have been a little bigger. I was still pretty hungry after I finished it.

Overal, a great market! Can't wait to try more of their stuff and watch as they fill up their store.

  1. Finally, it seems they were renovating forever.
I had heard a rumor that the owner is one of the former owners of Feast in Deep River, not sure of the truth in that.
Thanks for the report, looking forward to checking it out!
