Great World Supermarket - Fort Myers
I just stopped by for the first time today, but there is a relatively new international supermarket in Fort Myers on US 41 between Winkler and Hanson.
The selection is heavily biased towards Asian, and in particular Phillipino and Chinese foodstuffs, but there are options from many other counties as well. There are two full aisles filled with nothing but various dried noodles and ramen (and ramen-like) individual soup meals. There is a variety of frozen and refrigerated stuff, a lot of which I couldn't recognize. They have tons of dried and salt cured fruits and vegetables, a plethora of spices, fresh seafood and many cuts of offal.
Some of the highlights:
Durian! in Fort Myers! (I only saw one, and at $2.99 a lbs I decided to pass, but maybe someday...)
Sichuan Peppercorns, a nice sized packet for just $1.99
Tons of pickled chinese veggies
Huge jars of fried onions and garlic
Cans of a large variety of seafood
Locally made Kimchee
An impressive frozen dim-sum selection.
I picked up a bunch of random stuff, and I have no clue what I'm going to do with half of it yet. The place is large, well lit, clean, and the prices are good overall. It's well worth a visit if you are looking to pick up some unusual ingredients.
