Grand Opening Today! Brand New Stop & Shop Hyannis....10 Yrs. in the Making!

Meh.

BTW S&S stores - at least in the Milford CT region south gets their fish from New York City.
I was talking to the an employee there at the fish counter & he was basically livid with the service and product provided by the wholesaler.
Apparently, they used to get their fish from the wholesaler used in Mass, but switched. I guess it was cheaper to transport the fish from the Fulton Fish Market (now in the Bronx).

Needless to say, I don't buy my fish, or much at S&S unless I have to.

Our Stop and Shop in Milford is worse than ever. After an agonizing reorganization that left the store more confusing to navigate, the result seems to be less of everything. The produce section is pitiful. Poorer quality, higher prices, no choices. I searched high and low for radishes, you know, the bunches with their greens, like they grow in the field? I finally located some old, just about rotten bagged radishes, not worth buying. They have a huge display of maybe 8 different kinds of tomatoes right in front, that are ridiculously priced. They have along with the tomatoes, overpriced avocados, basil and other makings for summer salads. Then when you look for real vegetables such as kale, leeks, even scallions, they are not there or wilted and sad. 2 dollars for a sprig of sage in a stupid plastic box!
The seafood dept, is disgusting and the choices are abysmal. Farmed, frozen and stinking. I guess I have vented long enough, anyone have any suggestions for decent markets in the Milford area?

You have my sympathy. The only redeeming feature I've ever found at S&S is that they carry Boars Head cold cuts. Now if only they had a decent roll or loaf of bread, something other than a green house or ethylene ripened tomato, etc..

The strangest impression I got was even though the store is 40% larger than the former location, the produce, meat, fish, bakery and several other areas seemed smaller. The truly new areas are really weak like a small butcher counter, a small hot food self serve area. They even took out the salad bar. They expanded the non-food area which is a total waste of space in my opinion. No inventive or new ideas at all.

What stood out the most to me now that I've been shopping at the Market Basket at Sagamore is how expensive everything was, even their so-called Grand Opening "specials". Stop and Shop is easily 40-50% more expensive, and honestly, I can get Boars Head at my local village grocer if I really need it. So far, I've found MB cold cuts to be just as good at half the price anyway.

The funny thing about Boars Head is that it's nothing more than a marketing company. They don't produce any of their items. They're all made by national companies, but to their specs. They're items are good, but you can find the same quality within the national brands for a lot less. That goes for all private label items also.
Stop and Shop hasn't been a great supermarket since they were sold to KKR and then Ahold.

DeMoulas Market Basket is the best supermarket chain around for quality items at the best price. Walmart is even afraid to go up against them.

While I am one of the biggest DeMoulas/MB fans there is. Driving from CT to MA to shop there each month, I must disagree with your statement that Walmart is even afraid to go up against them. There are many communities that have both MB and Walmart Supercenters selling a full line of groceries. Off the top of my head I recall visiting oth brands in Fitchburg, MA and Salem, NH.
