Rehearsal dinner venu in Athens, GA?

mdc1501 Jul 27, 2012 10:17 AM

My son is getting married next April near Athens and we are looking for a good place to host the rehearsal dinner. I haven't been to Athens for 30 years so don't really know where to start.

We want a private room, reall good food and I really want to have oysters on the half shell to start. We'll have around 30 people. Any ideas?

Are you talking about venue only or renting a restaurant or private room and also purchasing their food?

I'd prefer to find a venue that has excellent catering facilities--or a good restaurant with a private room, and in the latter case, of course, purchase the food. Does that help?

I'm not really sure about venues with catering facilities. Lee Epting has been around since the dinosaurs (don't tell him I said that) and is pretty popular all around the Southeast. You may want to just call them and ask about venues. They're probably one of the larger catering outfits so most venues without in-house catering probably allow them.

If you want pretty good at a reasonable price, maybe call Nona's (formerly Harry Bissetts) down town. Their front room upstairs could accommodate (and they have other rooms too) but it also looks out over North Campus (and you can pretty much see the Arch) which would be cool. They have oysters too, although I prefer their Rockefeller and Bienville baked options.

La Dolce Vita might rent out their whole upstairs for a rehearsal dinner. Their carpaccios are awesome.

Five and Ten is Hugh Acheson's flagship in Athens and is pricy but probably the best. I do not think they have private rooms but it's worth a call. Maybe his other restaurant, The National, could accommodate if you want be downtown.

East/West Bistro downtown also has a big private room upstairs
