Anyone been to Round Guys Brewing Co. in Lansdale?

I didn't realize they were open yet until I read this in the North Penn Distorter:

  1. I think they just got their approval to sell food. I have had their beer, which is outstanding. Especially notable is a wonderful Berlinerweisse.

    1. Here's their website with FAQ's:

      1. They only started operating as a brew pub about a week ago, but I visited a few weeks ago to sample some beers. We got a growler of one of the Wild Eye series sours, which we loved. Sounds like food is still rather limited.

Only food they are offering is hot dogs, last I heard. I seriously recommend their Berliner Weisse.. it is phenomenal.

Yeah, that wasn't a style I was familiar with going in, and we were surprised by it but liked it. I was also a fan of their black IPA.

While I haven't been in since they started serving food, I follow them on Twitter and they've mentioned some other sandwiches (grilled cheese variants and I think maybe a meatball sandwich?) but it sounds like it's changing daily at this point.

I stopped in last weekend with a friend. Tried their 4 beer sampler to find out what I might like of their beers, and really liked the black IPA. Atmosphere was pretty laid-back, I don't think a lot of people know about this place yet. Accomodations are a bit sparse, just a bar, some tables, a few TVs, and a huge window along the back of the bar showing their brewing vats and equipment. Service was a bit slow, but I expect it to get better the longer they are open. The menu was very limited, from soft pretzels (from the pretzel place next door, I presume) and hot dogs, although they were serving a special grilled cheese sandwich that evening. If you just need a little something to snack on, there is always the free popcorn machine in the corner! Glad to have this microbrewery in town! Along with Tabora and the new seafood restaurant, things are looking up in Lansdale!

Yeah, I keep hearing from people whenever I mention the brewery, "oh, I didn't even know they were open yet!" Definitely bare bones, but I liked the laid back feel and the huge windows (we went on a sunny Saturday afternoon). I plan on visiting again this weekend to see how things are shaping up now that they're actually able to sell things other than growlers to go!

Had their Altbier tonight, which is on tap at Cantina Feliz in Fort Washington. Quite tasty. Looking forward to stopping by their place in Lansdale. Thanks for the heads up.

        2. Recent first time visit started off very well with one of the owners coming by and explaining all the different beers on tap. Service went significantly downhill from there (that owner left for the evening). This has the feel of a spot that has regulars and if you're not one of the regulars, you're out of luck. Took well over 45 minutes to get my food. Which consisted of sandwiches and bacon-wrapped pretzel bites. There is no reason it should have taken that long. And at no point was I asked if I wanted another drink when my first was finished. The place wasn't crowded at all, so there is no excuse for the shoddy treatment by the staff.

As a follow-up, I did email the owner with my concerns about the 'vibe' of the place. He said he will talk to his staff about it. So bonus points for very prompt follow-up and listening to his guest's concerns.

I have always enjoyed visiting there, though always more for the beer. The food has been an after thought. I do not think they have full time kitchen staff, so it is up to the bartender servers to heat stuff up.

The two guys running the place are former Merck employees. They really make some nice beer. They also have some good live music sometimes. Definitely a local crowd at night. Weekend afternoons its a bit more friendly.

I am certain that your comments are appreciated by the owners. How employees conduct themselves when the owner is not on site is an extremely important component to the success of the establishment. I have witness inappropriate behavior by employees frequently that was not at all consistent with what is expected by the manager/owners and have tried to make this visible to them. Done with no expectation of compensation; I have frequently received a thank you, an apology and an offer of remuneration which except in the most egregious case is not accepted.
