The new Ovaltine formula

mystery250 Jul 25, 2012 03:27 PM

I was distraught when I bought Ovaltine the other day. It is now a fine powder instead of the granules.

I used to sprinkle them on ice cream and sometimes even eat them by themselves. I enjoyed getting a tablespoon full, then dipping it just under the milk, having it turn brown, but still have a pocket of luscious powder inside.

The new kind is disgusting in my opinion, what is yours.

There are many versions of Ovaltine worldwide. The original was made in Switzerland. I was exposed to the British version growing up in Hong Kong. I much prefer the British version which is available in most Asian and Chinese markets in the US. The British version has always been powdery, not with the granules. I find the US version to be inferior to the British version, just a personal opinion.

I got the Jamaican version in my local supermarket, in the ethnic section. First ingredient malt, not sugar or corn syrup. Gave the old one away to the food pantry, someone will like it I guess.
