New Buster Rhinos location in downtown Oshawa

Yesterday, my wife and I popped by the new BR location on King St E and Simcoe in downtown Oshawa. They opened on Monday, so I expected a work in progress.

Its a VERY nice location. Its sit-down table service and, apparently, they'll be licensed soon (whiskey or beer with bbq? yes please!). The food is still great and the service was surprising polished for day 2.

Guessing word of mouth had spread, since they were pretty full and doing a lot of take-out during lunchtime.

The food was great - we had wings and ribs - and the atmosphere was definitely a step up from the Wentworth location.

  1. Do they smoke on site at this location or bring stuff over from the Whitby location?

i think the turnaround time from getting the keys to opening the resto was less than a month. I talked to Darryl (the owner) and they're still doing some renos to the back room. no smoking on site as of now, but once the sailing's smoother, i'd think they'll plan on putting a smoker on premises.

the nice thing about Buster Rhinos is that you can eat his brisket at the mother location (Wentworth) or as far away as Sweet Escape in the Distillery and it still retains the smoke and flavour.. of course, there's nothing more delicious than eating meat right off the smoker, but most restaurants smoke overnight, so timing is normally everything.

So is this location Darryl's or did he bring in a franchise/partner? I think the other Oshawa location is a franchise of some sorts right?

          the non-Wentworth location is franchised.
Darryl's either a full or part owner of this current location. not sure.

    2. Any word on what the beer selection will be?

I wish a Toronto location would open. :-(

Its going to likely be Ontario beer. I don't think you'll have one-offs from GLB on tap, but it will probably be a bottle list of your best Ontario offerings.

      2. Do you know if they are open on Sat?

Yes, til 9 at the downtown Oshawa location

        2. My wife and I went there for the first time this past Friday August 15th. Got there at 11pm. Two guys on acoustic guitars were great. Went with another couple. Total only 9 people including us in the bar. Had a fantastic time loved the craft beers on tap. We all had the smoked wings. They were awesome!!! Our server Jessica who was by herself did a fantastic job keeping our drinks filled.
Will definitely return for more music and great BBQ!!!
