Buffalo Milk

  • 5

Hi! I just started making my own mozzarella cheese and I would love to make it with buffalo milk. Problem is, I don't know where to get buffalo milk in the Philly area. I know Hillside Farms in Telford (Montgomery Co.) raises buffalo and sells all sorts of buffalo meat products from steaks to bologna...but they don't sell the milk. Anyone know where I can find some in the greater Philly area? Thanks!

  1. Unfortunately, I don't think you can get Buffalo Milk here. Buffalo Milk is actually Water Buffalo Milk, not the same as American Buffalo or Bison (which is raised locally for meat). I saw a show a while back that said there are only 2 or 3 Water Buffalo Dairies in the US.

      Thanks for the info!

    2. I wonder if a place that makes their own mozzarella, like Claudio's, would be willing to sell you some? Provided it's what they use.

        Claudio's uses cow's milk

      2. There is a restaurant/grocery in Sarasota Florida who has a buffalo mozzarella machine, frozen buffalo milk is imported from Italy and he makes the cheese. Does it taste like the Italian product ? not even close, but he makes it and no one seems to care.
