Is Sky City Really as Bad as All That?

I have a significant birthday coming up and I decided that I wanted dinner at the Space Needle, since we're the same age and all. I know Calvin Trillin's rule never to eat in a revolving restaurant, but is it really that awful? It seems like people who Yelp generally hate it. Any menu recommendations? Lunar Orbiter is a given.

  1. Focus. It's not about the food, which is OK, but being there, which is awesome. Cocktails and a 360 view. Food's better and cheaper at Triple Door, but your under-flippin-ground.

    1. Don't forget to use your Passport/Prime card (buy 1 entree, get the 2nd free) or buy discounted gift certificates at Costco. That will help lessen the overpriced sting.

My last 2 meals there were on the banquet level. The food was not particularly memorable, good or bad.

Wedding / party food at the banquet level was pretty horrible. It was worse than the vast majority of business conference / awards ceremony rubber chicken.

Although the food does include the elevator ride up (which is $15-$20 already) so with a Costco gift card, at least the price shock factor will be lessened.

(Disclaimer: Lived in Seattle for 15 years. Been up the Space Needle exactly twice and all in the last 2 years and paid for by someone else).

      2. I would describe the food up there as ordinary, which is to say not bad. A couple of cocktails plus that view will make it all seem just fine. I smile just thinking about the Lunar Orbiter....

        1. The food is fine.
          Just go have fun!
The Costco suggestion from above helps too. :-)

Fine/ordinary is really all I ask! That and a dry-ice enhanced sundae.

          2. Reporting back! I had a nice time--it's fun to be a tourist in your home town on occasion. I had one of the specials, a rather palid roasted breast of pheasant with asparagus and a sausage bread pudding that I would have happily made a meal of. The lunar orbiter is the most fun you can have with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a little chocolate sauce. They put a candle in mine. Add a nice salad and a couple of glasses of champagne and it was a fun evening.

Sounds like a great birthday, revolving and orbiting!
