First fancy thirteen year old dinner downtown...
I have been asked to provide some suggestions for a "fancy" 13th birthday dinner. 20.00 to 30.00 mains, downtown central, leaning to Italian or French (no heavy seafood or ethnic menus), I suspect they want a room that fits the mood, prefer upscale/quiet vs. loud. I was thinking of The Corner House or even La Bodega, both have pretty settings...can't think of anything Italian. La societie also might work...any other clever ideas?

I'd consider Nota Bene (Queen and University). The $20 - $30 price-point works, it has high end service and quality without feeling so uptight that a 13 year old wouldn't feel welcome. The dining room is slightly loud, but that's due to poor acoustics rather than being rambunctious. Here's a link: http://www.notabenerestaurant.com/menus/
They even have a beef brisket burger in case the 13 year old palate is feeling a little less adventurous that day.›1 Reply -
Maybe Le Select. I love le select for company/groups because its pretty reliable, has a nice bistro atmosphere, is still affordable, and has "safe" options for those who aren't adventurous (aka. steak frites etc)
