Acquaviva or La Griglia

Acquaviva-- Westfield
La Griglia-- Kenilworth

Meeting another couple in this area, haven't been to either of these places. We've seemed to narrow it down to these 2. Any comments welcome. Let us know how the food and ambience is at these 2 places, and which one you would choose.

As an aside, La Griglia has been mentioned in recent news stories about a pending mob trial in Philadelphia.

    A snippet:
"... lawyers argued at length about the admissibility of conversations from two secretly recorded mob meetings picked up on a body wire worn by a cooperating government witness. The meetings, at restaurants in North Jersey, included discussions about murders, extortions, and mob initiation ceremonies. Assistant U.S. Attorney Frank Labor described one of those meetings, at La Griglia, a restaurant in Kenilworth, N.J., as "tantamount to a meeting of the board of directors of organized crime."

One of my favorite food related movie quotes "Drop the gun take the cannoli's". lol

This location has a long history with the mob going back to it's days as Ang & Mim's. It was a hang out for mob figures for a long time. That was a classic italian restaurant straight down to the black and white checkered table clothes.

Law enforcement has told me that there is a "cloud" over LaGriglia for a long time

Sadly I heard last week there was a fire at La Griglia and a day or two later when I passed by there they were in fact closed. Does anyone know the extent of the damage and anticipated time of the closure?

I was supposed to try La Griglia the other day but they aren't open on Sundays. I have tried and enjoyed Acquaviva. I'll comment solely on location- the area of Acquaviva might be a little more fun for a "date night" than La Griglia - La Griglia is on a busy street with no outdoor dining, while Acquaviva is in downtown Westfield with a nice outdoor dining area, and you can walk around after dinner or grab coffee or frozen yogurt. The inside of both of these restaurants both seem very nice though and I think either one would be a solid choice.

I've been to both, and I prefer La Griglia... I think the food is better and if I remember correctly, the menu has more choices. But Acquaviva is a little less expensive, and has outdoor seating if you're into that.

Similar to Mickey I have never been to Acquaviva.....however I go to La Griglia often. Even though I live close to an hour away if/when I find myself in that area La Griglia is my go to spot. I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal or one that has ever dissapointed. The service is always excellent and the food speaks for itself. I could not recommend the place higher. Hope you enjoy!

I've been to La Griglia a few times (although not in the past few years) and always enjoyed it. Since I've never been to Acquaviva I can't compare, and I can't remember too many specifics of what I had (and I'm sure the menu has changed since then), but I do know it was a first choice when I first moved back to the area a few years ago.
