Birthday Dinner Ideas.

My son turns 18 in a couple of weeks and we want to take him out for a good dinner. I'm having trouble thinking of someplace to take him.

Has to be someplace laid back, not fancy or fussy. Preferably north Austin. He likes most everything with pizza, chicken, and shrimp being favorites.

Sorry I haven't been back until now. We all hate Mr. Gattis. Bartlett's sounds good but think I might save that one for my birthday in Sept.
So far the list of possible places includes: Mandolas, Carraabas, Homeslice, Red's Porch and a couple others he has mentioned that I don't remember right now.

Out of those choices-homeslice. But get their early or plan to wait a bit...closed on Tuesdays.

Hey, if he's 18 he needs shrimp and prime rib from Bartlett's. It's fancy, but not fussy.

That's a terrific suggestion. I had my birthday lunch there recently and really enjoyed it. Everything in the place is impeccably done.

You might want to consider the grilled artichokes appetizer as well.

We did my daughter's birthday at House Pizzeria on Airport. They reserved a couple of tables for us and we ate their panna cotta for birthday dessert. It's a little more cozy than Mandola's.
My 20 year old and 16 year old sons love having their birthday dinners at P.F. Changs. It would seem to be too fancy but they are very accommodating. It's Austin, so the boys wear nice jeans and T-shirts.

Mandola's? Laid back? check. Pizza. Super-check. Chicken? Checkarooski. Shrimp? Mmmm - donno.

Try Reale's Pizza and Cafe on 183 and Anderson Mill. They have a killer pizza and some good italian.

If you give us a more information we can be more helpful. This is so vague. It could be anything from MR. Gattis to Uchi and I"m guessing you have more parameters in mind.
