501 Diner in Chapel Hill

Does anyone know if the 501 Diner in Chapel Hill is still in business? I drove by there this morning at about 9:00 and saw not a single car in the parking lot and what appeared to be a dark interior. I didn't see any signs on the windows and I didn't get out of the car to see if anyone was inside. I'm guessing they aren't closed on Mondays. It's a diner! Perhaps a vacation. Anyone know?

Just FYI -- the 501 Diner is now closed. Not sure exactly when it happened, but I was there on Valentine's Day, so sometime in the last 3-1/2 weeks.

They're closed on Mondays. And, for some weird reason, Saturday nights (at least in the summer). I actually really like the place.

Closed on Mondays? I've never heard of a diner closed any mornings, at least in the NJ area where I lived before moving here. Saturday, or any other nights, well, I don't really expect diners to be open at night anyway so that isn't a big deal for me.

I was gonna add to my previous post, "Must be a southern thing". After 3 years here, I guess I'm beginning to think that way. That, and retirement, will make you slow down a bit. ;-)

I'm not a native either, and it took me a little bit to get used to it. But the main, for me very good thing is that 501 Diner (or Owens, as I persist in calling it) is still open. They do one of the best veg burgers in town, and I like the way they allow you to build your own burger. i think once the burger laws change it'll be great. For a while they were running all you can eat fries with their burgers on certain nights (not that one needs more fries, but it made LulusDad very happy).
