Nava Thai Wheaton

Just back from Nava Thai. It's been a while since I've been there, but honestly I don't think it ever recovered from the move to a much bigger place several years ago. We had nom tuk (beef salad), steamed dumplings and a soft shell crab. The dumplings used to be fantastic, but tonight they were mediocre. The beef salad was very spicy and pretty good, but not remarkable in any way. The crab was cooked (deep fried) very well and it was a big, full crab, but the sauce was cloyingly sweet. I had even discussed this with the waiter beforehand, asking for not sweet, but more traditional Thai.
I was very disappointed and felt my mistake in not going to Ruan tonight. I vowed to go to Ruan in the next week or two to see how they execute the soft shell crab.

Not for the faint of heart, but the Floating Market Noodle Soup at Nava Thai was very rewarding on a recent visit. Still a potent concoction.

Overall, Ruan Thai still does it for me, though I am stuck on the combination of spicy boneless duck and the watercress appetizer with shrimp, squid and cashews. That is one place I really wished I lived closer to.
