Plymouth so far this week not so bad
Just a few notes while they are fresh on my mind about some places in Plymouth. One night at Wood's seafood proved unremarkeable.Fried Lobster was quite tasty, but scallops seemed previously frozen and clams while OK all had uniform shape and size with medium bellies but they were like a ring. They didn’t have the occasional string sticking out or ring as good clams do.
Driftwood Public House offers an array of draft and bottled beers, many Belgian. We started with Wellfleet oysters, briny and fresh then ‘fries’ which were the shape of French fries but very thin. The large pile was nicely salted with asiago cheese, sautéed onions and zucchini. Very addicting. The steak and cheese pretzel was a large pretzel stuffed with shaved steak, onions and cheese with a remoulade type dipping sauce. Great beer food but too filling for us to try the good looking burgers, pizzas or steamed littlenecks.
Striped Bass from the Manomet lobster pound was fresh and delicious sautéed with littlenecks as I added shallots, fire roasted tomatoes and Riesling and grilled some hearty country bread from Hearth bakery.
The Wine Cellar is a Tapas restaurant below Latitude 42 which was bustling on a Thursday (Lat 42 that is).The wine cellar seems to have a better beer list than wine list, though I enjoyed a 4 flight sampler. We enjoyed dates stuffed with Gorgonzola and wrapped in bacon, very good meatballs in a nice tomato sauce, overcooked spicy stuffed mushrooms, braised short ribs to die for, a cheese platter with little inspiration, gorgonzola, parmesan and asiago with a delicious strawberry jam and evoo with balsamic syrup and too cold but fresh bruschetta. Dessert was quite good, a p,b, j cupcake and red velvet with limoncello cream and 3 mousses.
Cupcake Charlie’s offered many choices. We went with a lemon cupcake with a curd like filling and chocolate chip which I didn’t try. The lemon, plenty of frosting and filling. A tad sweet for some perhaps but I like sweet.
Still maybe to try Solstice, Latitude 42 and somewhere for breakfast.
And, the GF enjoyed Mary Lou's for coffee. I'll have to go just to see who waits on me.
