The son of a good friend is leaving for his freshman year at Puget Sound, and I thought it would be fun to buy him a few gift cards to local eateries. Any places I should definitely hit? He's vegetarian.

Zunzie, Ironically, the best vegetarian food in the Tacoma area is served by a restaurant highly focused on meat. I suggest you acquire a gift certificate from "Marrow" a restaurant on 6th Avenue in Tacoma very near UPS.
