Wiltons or Rules? [London]

lacemaker Jul 19, 2012 06:42 AM

Asked as part of another thread, but thought I'd pull it out to try to get an explicit answer.

Saying goodbye to London and would like to try something very English, ideally come game season.

Haven't been to either, and willing to accept substitutes, but not a gastropub, simply because I've been to a great many and will probably go to a great many more.

All I can say is that in over 40 years eating at Wilton's I have had some of the best game there. The only places that come close are not public.

I have never been to Wiltons (and never will while it retains its archaic "jackets required" policy)

On the other hand, Rules is, probably, my favourite place to go when I visit the capital. Just love it - it shouts "ENGLAND" to me.
