La Panetiere, rye ny via groupon

we used our groupon tonight for La Panetiere. The groupon was for their four course tasting menu,. Decided to add wine pairings, four generous pours and some very good wine including a 2009 bordeaux. actually, the waiter generously poured an extra glass of bordeaux for the cheese course. The room, food and service were top-notch and we loved the pacing of the four courses over three hours.

Nice to hear that it was good -- they sold a lot of those! 42 is on Groupon today. $80 for 2, $175 for 4 (the latter includes a bottle of wine). I didn't buy LP because there was no menu choice. 42 has different choices in each course. Plus you get fried rice as a 2nd course (seems strange).

Having never been to 42 - would you recommend purchasing the groupon?

I purchased the 42 groupon. My wife and I went there during HV Restaurant Week and had a very good meal, and that was with a much more limited menu.

I wouldn't say there is more choice at 42 with the Groupon menu than HVRW, but at least there are 2 choices (for HVRW there were 3). Just remember to park across the street so you don't get hit with the $10 parking fee at the hotel.

oh thanks for the heads up about the parking - where across the street?

City Center - the building with Target, Shoprite and the movie theaters. Might be able to find free street parking after 6pm although I am not positive about when the meters go off. Parking in the garage is "only" 75c/hr. Could probably park in the Galleria as well.

What did it end up costing per person, with the groupon?

we based our gratuity on the pre-discount tasting menu cost+wine pairing. all in it was about $120pp. if we didn't opt for the wine pairing it would have been $70 (with gratuity on the per-discounted amount).

if you want to drink 4 (in our case 5) glasses of good wine with dinner, paired to each course, the wine pairing is a good deal.
