Hi all,
Med student here from Charleston, SC, doing a rotation for a month in Oakland - commuting from DT Berkeley. Just checking in with my foodie progress over the past two months of temporary residency + one former trip. Below are the notable places I have tried in close-ish order of gestalt of the experience. Concentrated in dt Berkeley & the Mission:

Tartine Bakery
Cheeseboard
Little Star Pizza
Fremont Diner (Sonoma)
Spruce (burger)
Farolito
Boccalone
Four Barrell
Vik’s Chaat
Jayakarta
Humphrey Slocombe
Lush Gelato
Top Dog
Phil’s Sliders
Udupi Palace
Slanted Door (booth)
Dosa
Sycamore
Garlic Fries @ Giants game
PiQ
Poulet
Jupiter
Pork Store Cafe
Ritual
Blue Bottle
Philz
Arizmendi’s
Pancho Villa
Cancun

Below is my list of restaurants that I would like to try if the opportunity strikes (occasion, location, craving, etc). Order is very rough. I know this is a lot of restaurants, but I definitely would appreciate any to definitely avoid or definitely make an effort to eat at - especially within the context of only having 2 weeks left. Also, any Oakland suggestions would be great as I've been working there but not staying for food.

Nopa
Zuni
Delfina
Incanto
Poc-chuc
Mission Chinese
Chairman Bao Truck
Bi-rite
Rwoya Ramen
Ici Ice cream
Limon Peruvian Rotisserie
Balompie Cafe
Mission Beach Cafe
Food and Farm
Bar Tartine
Delancey St (for the cause)
Liguria Bakery
Papalote
Taqueria Cancun
House of Prime Rib
Bix
Gather
Swan Oyster Depot
Il Cane Rosso
Foreign Cinema
Tadich Grill
Out the Door

  1. yum's in fremont
kingdom of dumpling in the sunset
    shalimar
park tavern or marlowe (just for the burger)

look like they belong on your list.

i'd move tadich, swan's, and house of prime rib up a lot higher on your list.

    1. Downtown Berkeley, Comal and Ippuku. Oakland, Dopo, Wood Tavern, El Huarache Azteca, Champa Garden.

Nice list -- that's some intrepid hounding in only two months!

Vientiane in Oakland too for the nam khao and sai ooa.

We thought Bix was kind of generic, especially for the price, though the jazz combo was nice.

Be sure to get the salpicon de res at Poc Chuc if you go.

        2. oakland- Cafe Colucci

          1. Local Mission eatery and knead(located in the back)
            Commonwealth
            Mission Pies

            1. what? you'd go to Top Dog in Berkeley and not Bongo Burger? (smirk)
