A Jar of Lobster
For the Summer, Jar has been offering three course lobster dinners on Mondays for $55. The menu changes each week but includes some interesting variants on a lobster starter, a lobster entree and a dessert. There is also a weekly special "summer cocktail" for an extra charge. This Monday, the starter was a delicious lobster pasta with large pieces of claw meat (described as Shanghai noodles but the sauce tasted more Italian even with the addition of masago caviar), followed by the body (which was very meaty) roasted with dry persimmon and smoked bacon--the menu mentioned savoy cabbage but I do not recall any in the dish. Dessert was a blueberry hand-pie with vanilla ice cream (good but not a reason to skip the terrific butterscotch pudding--my second favorite after the budino at Mozza), and the cocktail was a Blackberry Gimlet. The lobster dinners almost make me want to say TGIM. I am not clear on whether you need to specify that you want the lobster dinner when you reserve--it seemed as if the diners who sat down at tables on either side were not given the lobster menu while others were but I did not inquire.
