Abel Caterer, CT

Does anyone know anything about this caterer? Quality and presentation, especially.

  1. They catered my wedding. The food was delicious and looked very good. People still talk about the food. Their servers are also very good. I've also eaten their food at various shul kiddushes.

I should note that my brother-in-law married into the Abel family. Regardless, I only have good things to say about the caterer.

They catered my first wedding in 1978 and my last wedding in 2007. They also catered my daughter's Bat Mitzvah in 1992.

    2. YES....
Disclosure: I worked for them back in the late 1970s when Neil Abel was still alive.

I have used them since for many affairs, as recently as two years ago. They cater in many area synagogues, hotels, country clubs and other venues.

WARNING: They may not be able to get into a very FRUM shul.
They also own a treif catering operation and there is crossover of personnel.

It is now run by his daughter Merideth who does a wonderful job. You get what you pay for. The more you spend the more beautiful the presentation. Great quality food. Glatt available.

if you want to use them ask for Stanley to both book the affair and manage the party. He will make it stress free.

Is "Stanley" the same one who ran the JCC cafe in Bridgeport a number of years ago? I hope not...

I know there were some issues a while back due to the non-kosher side,m but have heard that there is now a local hashgacha. Is this accurate?

        1. re: Sussanna

NO...this is not the same Stanley. This is Stanley Moniz, who has worked for Abel for many year (at least 15 I know of).
Excellent local Orthodox supervision. Link to last year's cert follows, I haven't looked for this year's renewal

      2. Abel is now under the supervision of the Vaad of Fairfield. They are updating their website to reflect this. Therefore, they should meet all mainstream standards.

The Vaad's web site reflects the supervision. See under caterer.

Thanks for all the info on Abel. I am glad they are now "acceptable" to the stricter crowd thus giving them entree into more venues.
