Kyo Ya - Kaiseki or a la carte?

I'm planning on going to the Kyo Ya for the first time in September. I'm having a hard time deciding between ordering the Kaiseki or going a la carte.

Will I miss out on anything on the a la carte menu if I ordered the Kaiseki? Has anybody gotten the Kaiseki with supplements from the a la carte menu? What would you suggest for a first-timer? Thanks.

For a first timer , I would suggest the prix fixe kaiseki menu. Ordering a la carte should also be consiered a kaiseki meal. There is no difference in the service, very little difference in the food between the two. I have supplemented some a la carte dishes to the prix fixe kaiseki dinner. If something sounds delicious , just order it. Kyo Ya is fantastic!

Thanks. What would you recommend to get from the a la carte menu that's not part of the Kaiseki?

I don't know what is on the kaiseki menu since it changes frequently. I do not believe the pressed mackerel sushi will be on the kaiseki menu though. So I recommend that dish. and I recommend ebi shinjo, and the croquette.
