Roast Goose available at Jade BBQ in Scarborough

On her way home after a work shift this morning, my wife swung by Jade BBQ in Scarborough and picked up some goose. They had sold out the roasted variety by 3pm, just had the other non-roasted/marinated version left which was still tasty. Apparently they get their goose fresh from a supplier in Newmarket. If anyone is interested in trying some decent roasted goose, this might be an option. Best to give them a call to see if it's only weekends when they have it available.

See photo, the goose is the dark meat on the left (non-roasted version), the other meat is the younger roast pork (teen, not suckling piglet), which was a bit on a dry side today.

In my travels in Asia I've 'mostly' found that 'goose' isn't the same bird that we think of here; mostly it's 'white duck' (i.e. not the duck commonly used for foie gras and magret).
Can anyone confirm that the places mentioned in this thread are indeed serving 'real' goose?

      Nobody confirmed!
But I recently spoke with an Asian restaurant manager who told me (s)he had never seen 'actual' goose served in Toronto - it is indeed (mostly) 'white duck'.

        estufarian,

I've had real roast goose at Elegant Chinese up in Markham. It was a special order and roasted in-house. They made their own plum sauce too. Yum!

At Ho Ho BBQ on Midland and McNicoll, I saw a sign once for roast goose. When I inquired, the counter person told me that it was only available in season.

Sam Woo has it on Tuesday and Thursday! However, usually sold out early!

Sold out early means lunchtime? early afternoon? before lunch?
I've been dying to find some BBQ/Roast goose :-)

Sam Woo BBQ (not Sam Woo Seafood in the same strip mall) has the BBQ goose available every day on a pre-order basis.

On the subject of goose who has the best Chiu Chow style? I had a great one in Hong Kong recently...I'm talking the very thin slices that get slathered with this sauce, almost like a pile of roast beef au jus?

        Stop, you're making me hungry...

I can recommend a nice Chiu Chow marinated duck with the thin slices of breast (Bayview Court Restaurant in Richmond Hill) but not sure about the goose version.

Edited to say that the marinated goose Royaljelly had looks like Chiu Chow style but without the sliced meat.

Yeah I ordered Chiu Chow goose a second time during my last visit to Hong Kong and got exactly what Royaljelly posted. It was good, nicely chewy, but I greatly prefer the thinner style. Thanks for the reco!

Is there a huge taste difference between duck and goose?...

Hello friend. May be you can do a 'horizontal tasting' of roast goose by getting some from 'Sam Woo B-B-Q at Warden and Steeles as well?! For the past couple of years, they've been having them on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Last week, just noticed they have a poster on the door claiming daily availability! Love the 'chewy texture'!

If he wants to continue the goose tour ... the next stops can be "Princess" in market village followed by the bbq stall inside the food court on the corner of midland and mcnicoll (SE corner)
