August 2012 Cookbook of the Month Voting is Now Open!
Welcome to the voting thread for the August 2012 Cookbook of the Month.
Voting will be a little bit different this month. In our nomination thread, an overwhelming majority of posters named Planet Barbecue. There were also several vegetable-oriented books nominated. Most, but not all, of these nominations specified the vegetable books to be paired with Planet Barbecue. Some people want to do two books, some people want to have a single COTM. So here is what I'm going to do…
Please vote for either:
Planet Barbecue - a single book COTM, or
Planet Barbecue - paired with a vegetable book. If you vote for this option, please specify which book you would like as a companion:
Raising the Salad Bar
Vegetable Love, or
Verdura
I will count votes for a single book month vs. votes for a two book month first. If the majority of voters prefer a two book month, the vegetable book with the most votes will be the companion book.
If you only want to cook from a vegetable book, and not from Planet Barbecue, I suggest you vote for your preferred book in the pairing, and then just plan on posting to the thread for the winning vegetable book.

If you would like to read about how the COTM works, and view the prior selections, please click here:

When you cast your vote, please put your choice in ALL CAPS. Voting will close on Wednesday July 18th, at 5pm Pacific time, 8 pm Eastern time, and 12 midnight GMT.
Although we've had some discussion about volunteers assuming the VERY REWARDING ROLE of the COTM coordinator, we've yet to have a volunteer. To those of you considering: it's time to throw your hat in the ring!

Ok, after reading the posts, and checking out the 'look inside' feature on Amazon, I am in for COTM for these;
PLANET BARBECUE! (with the exclamation, as requested:), and
VEGETABLE LOVE; this one I must comment on. Barbra Kafka is one of the most tireless testers and researchers out there, for any book she does. Just check out the index if you have any questions on this. I think any CH'er would learn LOTS from this book. I have 3 of her books already, and she is a go-to on practical advice not just in the recipe, but on no-nonsense ideas about pairing dishes, getting things on the table if you have a busy life (who doesn't!) and like to cook. This book looks fascinating. And if you have to buy it, as I do, over 400 pages for $23 bucks? Bargain!

Another toast to Blue Room for stepping forward. On behalf of all COTMers, thank you for making another 6 months possible.
PLANET BBQ!!!!! paired with a vegetable book (whichever gets the most votes).
As for the pairing, my first choice would be
RAISING THE SALAD BAR
followed by
VERDURADoes that make sense?

I've been a big proponent of Planet BBQ over the past year, so I'm really thrilled to see it become a COTM. That said, because I know we have regular participants who either don't eat much meat, or don't have access to a grill, I do want to see it paired with a vegetable book. I'm going to go with
PLANET BBQ & VEGETABLE LOVE
I think this veggie book is the most versatile of those suggested, and will go best with the very diverse recipes in Planet BBQ.

PLANET BARBECUE!
I'd like to officially volunteer to coordinate through February 2013. (Blythe spirit expressed interest too, but "blue room" beats "Blythe spirit" alphabetically, right? ;-)
