anything in sea bright worth trying?

I have tried several and have not been blown away by anything. 1/2 price pizza at mad hatter on Tuesday is about the one thing that I go for...and some tasty carton brews to wash it down : )

I've tried woodys, kutobaki (spelling?) and the italian place next to the grocery store. I wasn't thrilled with any of those. Woodys had a decent feel but food was just ok.

    I like the Shrimp Tempura Tacos at Woody's, though chef Ed has left there and there is a bit of a lack of serious spice now. Ask for a side of diced jalapenos and hot sauce (I bring my own chipotle sauce to spice things up). Other than that I can't think of anything going on there now...

      I know....the one time I was there the salsa was super fresh. It just lacked everything.....no bite, no spice, no acidity, no flavor. It was like fresh diced tomato out of your garden with a tad bit of red onion. I did ask for some hot sauce and that helped...lots of potential but no execution

        I wondered why there was no zip in the fish tacos the last time I was in there.

          It's a shame they don't have Ed anymore. I used to love going to The Shack for his fish tacos. I don't know what happened, but letting him go was a big mistake! They were on track to become a great restaurant.

            My family and I had been there a few times over the winter and it was fantastic!.. We decided to take a couple from out of town there last week and we were really disappointed, we had talked it up to them while at the beach. We started with shrimp tempura and fish tacos. It seemed as though they were sitting under a heat lamp forever. I don't remember the cheese being melted in previous sittings. The fish was cold and the the tortillas fell apart, no spice whatsoever. My wife ordered the Grouper dish with tomatillo salsa. The fish was very fresh, but the salsa lacked any substance. It just tasted bland, nothing special. I had the Pork Chop which was still on my mind from the last time I was there. Pork was burnt and raw? The couple we were with had burritos which were definitely different then what I remember from The Shack. On a positive note, our server was great, but not enough to bring us back. The place just lacks any real direction.

          Yumi offers delicious sushi. Sea Bright Pizza has really good pizza. Ama (previously in Atlantic Highlands) is coming to the Driftwood slated to open in Aug/Sept.

            Mc Loon's Rum Runners has been a staple in Sea Bright for close to 30 years. It's as fine dining as you are going to get in that area....however they do have a more casual outside bar/deck area right on the water for a delightful lunch or dinner. I don't know if that was the kind of spot you were looking for....it's about half way between the Rumson bridge and the Sandy Hook Bridge on the bay side.

              yea I am well aware of everything is. I go to McCloones once in a while (live in middletown across the river.) I was just seeing what type of food people are eating...anything from a slice of pizza to a good steak. I am all over when it comes to dining.

              I might have to check out that grandma pie out. Thanks for the tip.

              JMS, is AMA going to have a liquor license there? IIRC, they were BYOB in ATL Highlands.

                Over a generation McLoone has set up a virtual empire of beautiful establishments with stunning views selling overpriced mediocre food...

                  I agree. When you think about it, most places with prime locations AND real nice views serve mediocre food at higher prices.

                  It reminds me of a saying in the car racing world. You get to pick 2 out of 3: FAST, CHEAP , RELIABLE.

                    Although I have enjoyed Rum-runners over the years....it's just now there are so many other alternatives it's easy to over look it. Of all his newest ventures I completely agree with you. I believe he just opened another new place in the latest OTB in north Jersey somewhere, Hoboken?

                  In the following order: the Lobster Bisque at Harry's, the grandma's slice or any for that matter at Sea Bright Pizza, and the sushi's quite good at Yumi.
