Solo dining in Las Colinas?
I'll be staying at the Marriott in Las Colinas for a couple of nights this week, and would appreciate any suggestions. I'll be sans transportation, so walkable is preferred. On the first night at least I'll likely be in shorts (my travel attire), so would appreciate any heads-up about dress codes, too.
edit: no cuisine preferences, no food restrictions.
The boys and I all had lunch at Empa Mundo today on No. Beltline Road in Irving. The owner, Raul Gordon is from Argentina and his wife makes all the (fabulous) empanadas.
These are without a doubt, the very best empanadas in the DFW area! Wonderful little place. Raul even serenaded us with his guitar. What a find! And get this, the overstuffed empanadas are only $2.50 each!
My favorites were the Texas brisket, cheese, onion and mushrooms and, spinach with ricotta and parmesan.
Those are excellent Argentine empanadas with their hot chimichurri type sauce on the side. If I remember, the Criolla (beef, olives, raisins) is the house specialty. It was certainly my favorite. Makes me kind of want one now - maybe dinner.
A far piece to walk from the Las Colinas hotel (as noted). They're good, but don't think they're THAT good!
Where are you originally from? If you are from NYC kinda hard to live up to that but we can try. If coming from LA we know to steer clear of any Asian.
Las Colinas for the most part is home to the largest Indian population in the state. I would start off by recommending a few Indian places out that way.
On into S. Irving there are quite a few taquerias that would fit your bill if looking for cheap and inexpensive Mexican.
You're not in an ideal location for walking to many restaurants, but most hotels at the Marriott level offer a shuttle within a 5 mile radius. There is a large variety of restaurants at the NW corner of Hwy 114/MacArthur - Las Colinas Village. Prices range from $-$$$ - nothing high-end.
The Keg - steak
Red Hot Blue - BBQ (chain)
Taco Diner - new tacos (local chain)
Champps - burgers (sports bar)
Ali Baba Mediterranean
Blue Fish Japanese Restaurant
For add'l restaurant listings at that location, search "Village" at http://www.lascolinasassn.com/Docs/Temp/Restaurant_List_2011-10.pdf
A little closer to your hotel is the newly opened, casually upscale Sfuzzi - http://www.sfuzzilc.com/
