A last minute entry -

Frozen Art Gourmet opened a second location in Sonoma just down Highway 12 from El Michoacana. First location in SR on Sebastopol Rd. near Dutton had wonderful flavors. Too many choices, too little time. But we've got the heat!

Frozen Art Gourmet Ice Cream & Paletas is open daily 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. It's located at 19151 Sonoma Highway, down the row of shops behind Breakaway Café. Phone [phone].

I missed out on Scream Sorbet they gave a free scoop of strawberry rhurbarb sorbet from 3-4p Sun 7/15/12 at their Telegraph Ave, Oakland shop.

I went to Ici & waited in the long line. I got a scoop of Darjeeling sour cherry on their homemade cone. It was nice $3.75. Tried Rosemary candied almond (in a cup it's $2.95)) & it was ok too.

My choice for National Ice Cream Day, a visit to Pick's Drive In, Cloverdale, for Clover Stornetta soft serve ice cream. Only $1.39 for the small size or $1.79 for large.

Not today, but Friday I have a six-stop ice cream crawl of San Francisco planned.

Which 6? My guesses are Bi-Rite, Humphry Slocombe, Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous, Mitchell's, Smitten, and...stumped on #6 but I'm guessing either the Ice Cream Bar or Bombay Ice Creamery.

BTW, I tried La Copa Loca on 22nd the other day and thought the maracuya gelato was very good. The mixed berry was also OK but a little on the icy side. Anyone have favorite flavors there?

I have never actually been into Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous, as it has always been closed when I try to go. You must go to Bi-Rite, and I would really recommend Three Twins Ice cream. (If you don't make it to the place itself, many SF groceries sell it also.)

I've been to Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous once, and have been plotting to go back. This will be my first visit to Bi-Rite (the one other time I tried to go there was a huge line and no parking -- hopefully Friday afternoon will be better).

There is usually less of a line at the soft serve outlet a couple of doors down. Also if you are buying prepacked pints, etc, you can avoid the line and go right in.

Frankly, I was underwhelmed by Birite ice cream itself after taking a couple of pints to a dinner party. I did have a nice sundae there though.

I took friends to MMM today, we sneaked in before 6pm, and they were SOLD OUT. There were a number of folks who grumbled away, bereft - lesson, if you're going to make a special trip to dogpatch, call first.
