Fast help! Lunch, downtown Chicago tomorrow!
In town from DC for 2 days, leaving to drive to Michigan tomorrow for a wedding and need a great lunch spot....well behaved 6 & 8 year old kids are with us! Help!
Where downtown? In the Loop? North Michigan Avenue?
If you're towards the north end of the Magnificent Mile, consider Cafe Spiaggia for Italian. Towards the south end (still north of the river), Grand Lux Cafe is a particularly good place for taking kids. In the Loop, I'd recommend Pizano's on Madison for deep-dish (phone ahead with your pizza order to avoid waiting 30-45 minutes while you're seated for it to bake).
The kids would need to have wide-ranging tastes and really like unusual foods to like the Purple Pig and its menu of charcuterie etc. Most of the kids I know wouldn't, with few exceptions. Your best bet is to take a look at the sample menu on their website to decide how your kids might react (or even show them the menu and ask them how they'd like it).
