Farmers markets in Escondido/ Rancho Bernardo

Hi There, will be visiting family this coming week, and would love to check out some farmers markets while in San Diego. We will be staying in Rancho Bernardo, and also would appreciate any recs. that would be wheelchair accessible. My father is older and needs to use a wheelchair now and we would love for him to see all the amazing produce in season now. Also, as we live in Canada, we cannot get Ranco Gordo beans here, any stores for me to check out to bring some home? Thanks so much in advance.

The Poway Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings (8am to 11:30am) offers a nice variety of local produce and other food goods. There are several prepared food stands that are worth checking out, particularly the Mexican stand serving tacos and ceviche. It's located in a parking lot next to the Old Poway Park, which means there shouldn't be any problem for your father in a wheelchair. You may want to check it out earlier in the morning, though, as it can become VERY crowded as the morning draws on, which could make it tough to maneuver around.

As for the Rancho Gordo beans, I'm pretty sure you are out of luck. They are based in Northern CA and don't make it down this far. If you happen to be flying through SFO, it looks like they are sold in a store at the airport: http://www.ranchogordo.com/html/rg_ma... Are you not able to order them online?

Escondido has a Farmers' Market downtown on Grand Ave. every Tuesday afternoon from 2:30 to 6:00. Everything is at street level with curb cuts everywhere and handicapped parking right. nearby. VINZ has outdoor seating and can be a pleasant stop for a cold beverage--alcoholic or not. Also lots of nice prepared foods, I like the Samosas at the Indian stand and the Squash Blossom Quesadillas right near A Bird Haven. As to the beans, I've never heard of them.
