DTW - Dinner for the wife's birthday?

  • 6

Good Day All-

I hope you are well.

I am thinking of taking the wife out to dinner for her birthday today. I am thinking Root, Logan or West End Grill. We have not been to any and I am leaning to Root as it is up in an area we do not get to very often as we are in Northville.

Would appreciate any thoughts on these three or any other options that you may think of that would be a special place for a birthday dinner.

Best regards, Tony

  1. I vote for Root. Had a wonderful lunch and dinner there
recently. Caution; LOTS of buttermilk in their mash
    potatoes.

Logan? As-in Logan's Roadhouse? No, thank you.

I'm sure he means Logan Restaurant in Ann Arbor>

Thanks, I did mean the one in Ann Arbor.

    2. The best meal I have had in the last year was at Mani Osteria in AA. The second best meal was probably at The Root. I had my birthday meal a few weeks back at The Grange - I was disappointed.

I like The Root, but that is because my small braised pork shoulder and my gazpacho soup were of high quality, particularly for the price, and both seemed "healthily" prepared. It may not be as intimate and special occasion-y as the Ann Arbor places you list, especially since you can't walk around afterwards. If your wife expects to be lavished with comfort food in a fancy place, I would not go to The Root.

Ok, I think we are set. I have made reservations for tonight at The Root. My wife does not need a fancy lavish place, she likes good quality food and I think The Root fits the bill.

Any opinions on the regular menu or the tasting menu? Although I really would like to try the pork.

          Best regards, Tony
