Best Tasting Menu Around $100?

chefrath Jul 10, 2012 11:47 PM

Hey, I'm wanting to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday in a few weeks with a tasting menu at a good restaurant. Where should I go for the best tasting menu that is around $100 per person? I've checked out Commonwealth and Central Kitchen, but are those the best or is there better? Thanks so much in advance!

Commis in Oakland. Tasting menu $75 with wine pairing +$45. I believe it is a great deal for what kind of food you get.

      I wholeheartedly second Commis.
i've been there three times and really enjoyed each time. The value is great. While you might get better food at a few restaurants in the bay area, I don't think you'll find more "interesting" food (in a good way). Also, the wine pairing is great. Some unusuall and very well chosen wines (and hard cider at one meal).

Third on Commis. If you want to stay in SF, the Atelier Crenn $95 menu contains many wonders.

I preferred Central Kitchen's tasting menu to Commonwealth. I find Commonwealth to have too many inconsistencies and not all dishes seem fully developed. Central Kitchen's tasting menu was good but not as memorable as La Folie's 110 chef's spring tasting menu which I would suggest if you would consider French food as well.
