End of An Era With Closure of Veggie World on Garvey

Well Veggie World at 321 W. Garvey Ave. closed down earlier this year, but the significance of the closure is only now becoming apparent. You see, since the mid-1980s that location, described by TonyC as a black hole for restaurants, has been home to 13 Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants. These have ranged from the original Chinese restaurant there, Meitze, one of the earliest Taiwanese restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley, which had a lengthy run here and later in the 888 Seafood center, to the Vietnamese noodle place I ate at on 9/11/2001, to Mountain King which was in business for all of two weeks, and People's Restaurant, the only restaurant to have branches simultaneously open in the SGV and Flushing, NY, until Liang Kitchen's recent foray into Flushing. However, the space is now being turned into a day spa, so turn out the lights and burners.
