BHM - Current favorite, light(er) dishes this summer at local restaurants?

Sort of in the spirit of this thread (and hopefully to rekindle the slow Birmingham posts here), what are you eating lately?

I had the beef salad at Surin downtown yesterday. While I still really like it, especially as the beef actually has a char on it, I think I preferred the versions at the (now closed) Thai House. Speaking of downtown Surin, that place was hopping but the service could not begin to keep up with the crowd.

Bring on the suggestions!

  1. I just had the Summer Salad (field peas, corn, tomatoes and cucumbers in a preserved lemon vinaigrette) with shrimp from Shindigs. It was excellent, and was very light.

It wasn't exactly light, but the rabbit ragout with house-made pasta occasionally on special at Ollie Irene last month was so, so good. It was rich, rabbity down-home comfort food, veering into Spain with the occasional olive. If Wil E Coyote ever caught Bugs, this is the recipe he should use.

    2. I've eaten out quite a bit lately, but, sadly, I haven't had anything that blows my socks off. I don't know if I'm just choosing the wrong menu items, or if the restaurants I'm going to are just not up to snuff.

I was looking forward to Bettola's pizza, but it lacked the crispiness I've had in the past. It was a limp mess. The flavor was good, but I was disappointed overall.
