New board list is very awkward to use

If you MUST make us add an extra click to get to the 'all boards' menu, why are the general boards at the BOTTOM of the very long list of boards of much less general interest? Move them to the top at least. Menus that make sense move from the general to the specific, not the other way around. Not one of the boards I regularly look at is featured in the 'popular boards' dropdown except Home Cooking.

+2. Put the "Topical" board at the top of the listings, then the geographical ones. My 2 cents.

I agree and add my request as well. Couldn't the dropdown list include more general boards and less area-specific ones? I understand if you are only including the most popular, but it's a pretty clunky set-up for me, as I don't live in Manhattan, San Francisco, etc. Thanks!

          Hi NonnieMuss,

As a logged in user, you can now save as many boards as you like, and they will appear in your "My Saved Boards" dropdown. This means that you'll have a personalized dropdown with all of the boards you want to read.

The Chowhound dropdown shows up for all users, regardless of whether they are logged in, and that's why we've chosen the boards that are there. We made a change this week to add in Washington DC and Vegetarian & Vegan, and changes may happen in the future too.

I understand why you put the boards you put on the list and that the site doesn't automatically detect where I am and present local lists - that was not my issue. I just think the dropdown should contain more generalized and less area-specific boards. If the boards are the most-visited or most popular, then it makes sense to keep them as you have them.

I had to do some digging to find out how to save boards, but eventually found a thread that explained it. Thanks for the resposne.

When you open the All Boards sub tab under the red CHOWHOUND tab the first list a member sees is their SAVED BOARDS. Seems to me that this text is taking up unnecessary space given the separation and inclusion of the re-designed MY SAVED BOARDS tab. And I completely agree that the complete listing of the ALL BOARDS choices is in a lousy order.

Generally speaking, the mish mash of fonts/colors/bolded items and ads flowing too close together makes the entire CH community site crowded, confusing and unpolished.

            Hi Kajikit,

Thanks for the feedback. We'll keep it in mind as we look to future board presentation changes. The "all boards" area is definitely a part of the site that will see more changes coming, so your timing is also great.

            Thanks,

            Meredith
