Lao Thai Kitchen - East Side Option
A group of us got together for an early dinner on the 3rd of July. We wanted something quick so we elected to stay close to home and went to Lao Thai Kitchen on Nellis Blvd. This is the type of place that you could drive by easily as it sits in the middle of an old strip mall. The décor is what you would expect, in other words, old posters of Thai images in frames. The ambience isn’t much…. However, the food is solid and the service both prompt and friendly.
The food overall was quite good. We started off with a Papaya salad that was requested at a level 5 heat. It was a nicely prepared salad, just the right amount of lime juice, and the heat was at least a five! We ate it all…. The darling daughter and others wanted the Wontons ($3.95) and Veggie Egg Rolls ($3.95). All of the Egg Rolls disappeared quickly, while the Wontons were barely touched. For entrees we selected Chicken Pad Thai ($7.95), Drunk Man Noodles (Beef and Chicken; $7.95)) , Chili Mint with Shrimp ($9.95) and Orange Chicken (7 year old’s choice; $6.95). The beef in the Drunk Man Noodles was very tender and plentiful. The vegetables – broccoli, tomatoes, bell peppers, mushroom, and baby corn were cooked perfectly. The Chili Mint was also a hit with the jalapenos kicking the heat up to the requested 8. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the servings were large enough that several take home containers were needed.
Our waiter was very gracious throughout the meal and kept our drink glasses full. The customers who came and went while we dined all appeared to be regulars and were acknowledged by the staff.
If you find yourself on the East side of town and have a desire for Thai food I would recommend Lao Thai Kitchen as a good, low cost option.
