Stoneware Cupcake Pan?

So I've been looking at a stoneware cupcake pan and was wondering if anyone had ever made cupcakes with one of these. I don't bake too often but my girlfriend makes cupcakes a lot and our bad is sorta old and nasty, and I was thinking about investing in a new one.

Advantages disadvantages to using an aluminized steel or stainless steel pan?

  1. My favorite bakeware is vintage Pyrex - and yes, I mean glass cake pans, which haven't been made since sometime in the early 80s.

    Second favorite is plain old aluminum. Not "aluminized" or "siliconized", but regular old aluminum. You can't put them in the dishwasher - well, you CAN, if you're careful about what dish soap you buy, but given the way they keep chaning formulations, its safer not to. But other than that, they heat evenly and promote browning without flipping over into over-browning (as a lot of dark "non-stick" pans often do).

    I've never used a stainless steel baking pan so can't speak from personal experience, but I don't see any real advantage to that over a good aluminum pan.

    USA Pans makes a cupcake pan coated with "Americoat", which is basically a silicon coating. My experience with silicon bakeware has been that it isn't nonstick for long and that it is HORRIBLE to clean. I ended up throwing all my silicon baking mats away because they couldn't be cleaned and stuff would stick to them with leech-like tenacity. So I don't trust this "Americoat" stuff - I would avoid (unfortunately, since they are a made-in-America manufacturer).

    Aluminized steel also has a tendency to wear off and then you have rust/corrosion problems.

    Stoneware doesn't strike me as an appropriate material for a cupcake pan. I don't like the stoneware/ceramic pie dishes - they tend to heat VERY unevenly. I'd avoid stoneware as well.

    AVOID AVOID AVOID anything that says it's nonstick. They over brown the bottoms, the nonstick usually isn't. Even if it starts out fairly non-sticky, it doesn't last for long. And I just don't want anything in my kitchen that I can't scrub at will.

    Honestly I'd just stick with a good heavy duty aluminum cupcake pan.
