arborio vs. sushi rice

Can I substitute arborio for sushi rice for California rolls? Hate to go out and buy sushi rice for what may be a one time thing when I have plenty of arborio in the house. Thanks for any advice you can give.

At first glance, I would say no. Arborio rices are really very single-mindly bred and sold for the purpose of leaching their starch into their cooking liquid; I've never heard of steaming them like other rice types. If it's for guests, I would definitely experiment with at a small pot of rice first.
