I finally was able to go to East Pearl Chinese Restaurant in Rockville last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Decor is unlike your typical Chinese restaurant with stone tiled floors, mustard yellow painted walls, high rough- in ceilings, and Belgian pottery dishes and serving plates. Started with BBQ platter of roasted duck, roasted pork and soy infused chicken. Each was delicious cooked perfectly with subtle infused flavors. Next was the Shrimp/ Chinese mushroom dumplings in a very flavorful consume. The dumplings were light, delicate with great flavor and the broth so delicious. Then had the fried filet of codfish, the seafood pan fried noodles, and the sautéed eggplant with a sweet and spicy garlic sauce. Each dish was lightly sauced, cooked perfectly and again with very subtle but delicious flavors. No heavy sauces lime in your typical chinese restaurant. The check was delivered along with complimentary slices of a cream filled rolled cake and sliced oranges. This restaurant has now set the bar extremely high for other Montgomery county and washington area Chinese restaurants in terms of atmosphere, presentation, menu choices and most importantly quality of food. Run, don't walk there ASAP. By the way, we arrived at around 530 on a Friday evening and it was about half filled. By 615 there was a line out the door waiting for tables. 80 % of the tables were large Asian families which usually serves as a great litmus test. Great new addition and I can't wait to go back with a large group to sample more things on the menu !

I was there last night, too. Arrived at 7:30, and waited ten minutes. Everything wasa tasty, with a special nod to the spicy wontons. Only complaint was the noise level. No matter, I'll be back.
