best seafood and crabcakes in charleston sc?
My favorite crabcakes in the city are at Tomato Shed Cafe on Johns Island - almost all crab, little filler. They also have the best farm-fresh veggie sides in the area. Open Saturdays.
Another great place for fresh local seafood combined with Southern sides is SeeWee Restaurant in Awendaw. Open both Saturdays and Sundays.
We ate at SeeWee on our way back from Charleston last week (the day before a holiday...couldnt wait to get back out of town,,,dont think I have ever had that happen before!). It was ...as always...out of this world. The only thing they do that I am not crazy about is the hushpuppies...a little too heavy for my taste. I prefer mine a little more light and airy. Anywho...husband had grouper bites, I had a fried plate...oysters, flounder, shrimp, and child had fried creek shrimp. Of course the sides shine here! Between the three of us we had (and passed around) mac and cheese, collards, fried geen tomatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy, fries, butter beans, and red rice. All were great but those collards were out of this world!!!
We also had so some she crab soup that was in the top three I have ever had.
