Smashburger - Thousand Oaks

Opens 7/11, they pretty much looked ready when we drove by today. In the Whole Foods center, in the former Chuy's space. They've also applied for a beer/wine license. Has someone already posted about this? I could not find a thread.

Also, another burger place - Village Burgers, I believe, but that might be an incorrect name - is soon to open on the Blvd., in the block east of The Lakes. Just what we need. More burger places.

  1. What we need is a GOOD burger place!!! Best in the area is the Counter which isn't in a convenient location (for me anyway).

    1. Umami Burger at the Lakes on Thousand Oaks Boulevard gets my vote.
I don't eat much meat, but the Umami Burger is rich beyond description and satisfies my yearly craving!

Thanks, nikkihwood, for posting about Smashburger and Village Burgers. I completely agree with LesThePress that we do not need "just another burger" in this area -- UNLESS they are doing something different or doing something better. I do hope someone will report back.

We can't do Umami because my sweetie is very particular about burgers, and we know that Umami will not substitute ingredients [But, oh, I so want to try that green chile cheeseburger!].

Looking at Smashburger's website, their setup is very similar to The Counter, but for less $$. so ...I am hoping for good things from Village Burgers.

Having eaten at Smashburger in La Jolla I must say it's a pretty good fast food burger. They get a nice char on the burger from smashing it on the grill while cooking it and it is still juicy when they serve it, unlike at Five Guys, It's also nice to get a choice of bun and cheese there. Better than most chains except maybe In n Out and Habit Burger. The problem I have with the Counter is that their toppings are better than their bland burger patty. I still would give Umani a try, some tasty burgers on their menu, I really like their Manly Burger with beer-cheddar cheese, smoked salt-onion strings, bacon lardons.

Will SmashB cook your burger medium rare if you want?

            1. re: Servorg

Don't know. Good question. They didn't ask how you want it cooked. It was the hottest burger (degrees not spice) I've ever been served.

Servorg, Umami cooks to perfection...medium rare with the very rich juices flowing.

That I knew... (g) We like Umami a lot. I normally have the triple pork burger with the chorizo though, so no rare/medium rare issue to deal with.

No (at least not the ones I've been to).

          2. According to the LA Times we will see as many as 60 Smashburgers in the LA area over the next few years.

If they won't cook it to order, I won't be ordering it.
