Help! Birthday dinner for 15 in SF this Saturday night

Hi all! My friend's wife is planning a night on the town for his bday this Saturday. Looking for a decidedly downscale spot with good grub and drinks. Everything I've suggested is either too expensive ($50pp plus) or unable to accomodate us so late in the game. May check out Lucky Strike for some bowling/food/drinks, but would like some other suggestions. They will be staying in Union Square, so somewhere close by would be nice! Thanks in advance!

not super close but the Sausage Factory in the Castro has a back room with full bar that can accommodate large parties. you won't get the room all to yourselves (you'd need more people - like 30 or more i think) but it works out very well - i had my bday party there last year. fun and tasty, decidedly not upscale. your friends can take muni and get off at Castro and walk the colorful block down to 18th and Castro. very reasonable too.
