rooftop late-nite dinner +fireworks view in Mpls?

lawkitty Jul 3, 2012 11:29 AM

Good afternoon trusty chowhounds,

I had this wonderful idea (as I am sure many of you did too!) of eating a leisurely dinner, with some wine, on a rooftop restaurant patio, and finishing just in time for some wonderful 4th of July fireworks.

I am looking for some recommendations from local chowies re: a good place to both dine and view the display.

Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks in advance, and a happy holiday to you all!

Not a rooftop, but if fireworks are still taking place off/near Nicollet Island, a deckseat at Vic's would be nice. Also, the Guthrie has that fifth floor restaurant, and then you could grab a viewing spot inside that skyway to nowhere

Level Five Cafe is only open on performance days for pre-theater dining. I'm fairly certain the theater is dark on the 4th so you definitely should check with them if you are considering this as an option.

I'd imagine that Stellas or the Uptown Cafeteria would be good viewing spots for all of the fireworks that go off in the area between starting around 9:30 or 10. Note that I'm only commenting on the quality of the viewing and not the food. Neither place's food is especially bad, but I would not recommend either place as a meal destination in and of itself.

Solera has great food and a beautiful rooftop. If the fireworks are off Nicollet Island, you should be able to see them, but can anyone confirm?
