Discontinued at Trader Joe's - July thru December 2012

Renewing for the second half of the year. I have not seen the summer season Meyer Lemon Cake Mix so far - not even sure they had it last year, since I had stockpiled some from 2010. Looks like it's extinct =-(

Are you in the mid-Atlantic? A lot of things were gone last week due to inventory.

      1. re: noya

I saw them at a NYC-area store yesterday.

        1. re: noya

Yes, I saw those chips there today. Are they good? I have never had or considered them.

          1. re: noya

Spotted these today at the Pittsburgh, PA store

          2. My TJ's employee friend told me the Everything Crackers have *not* been discontinued; they are backordered at the supplier. I hope she's right.

I've also heard that the Bite Size Everything Crackers are back-ordered, both from employees in NYC and in Paramus. One employee told me that it's one of their most popular products. I hope that's true. Seems like they've been gone for a while. Supplier problems, perhaps?

              1. re: Rilke

Thank you for that, because I grabbed 'the last box' at our store last week, and was afraid that they were gone forever.

                1. re: Rilke

                  Everything Crackers have returned!!

                  1. re: Rilke

They only very briefly, at least in the NYC and northern NJ areas. Then they were gone again. I haven't seen them in months. Did supplier problems kill this item? If so, then how depressing. I've had to switch to the long flat crackers in cellophane trays.

                    1. re: Ike

I haven't seen them in months either, and I no longer work at the store so I don't know the story. I miss them :-(

                      1. re: Rilke

I asked the employees when I went last week to Trader Joe's. They are still trying to find a source to produce the cracker and hope to see it soon. Not sure when though but they are trying since it is a best seller.

                  2. re: Rilke

I'm sure glad to hear that, I hope they are in my store (Oakland, CA) this afternoon.

                    1. re: calny

                      Entertainment crax have too!

                  3. Is mango lassi gone for good or just temporarily unavailable?

                    1. re: drmoze

                      Lassi was discontinued in May.

                    2. Have not seen my TJ's beloved Lemon and Triple Ginger Snap Ice Cream, nor is it listed on TJ's website, which contains a complete listing of their frozen ice creams. Hope this is not a permanently discontinued item!!!

strange--my store had it last week. maybe your store hasnt been ordering it for some reason? ask at the captain's "altar".

                        1. re: chez cherie

It's back (lemon and triple ginger snap ice cream)...must have been a delay in shipment because I did not see it there the last time...thanks chez cherie

                        2. re: littleflower

Triple Ginger Lemon Ice Cream discontinued on 4/4/2013.

The Triple Ginger Lemon Ice Cream has been discontinued due to nationwide slow sales, and inventory is no longer available at our warehouses....I miss this one, too! I am sorry for the disappointment, as there are no plans for the return of this item. We also are contractually bound to a non-disclosure agreement for any product under our Trader Joe's Private Label and may not divulge our supplier.

I have shared your comments with our Product Steering Committee. I cannot guarantee an immediate outcome; however, we absolutely do take customer requests into account when we develop new products and revise, or bring back old ones!

                          Best regards,

Noooooooooooo! I loved that ice cream - I know some people did not care for it but I thought it was really an original flavor you couldn't find anywhere else, plus I love lemon ice cream. Well, hope they replace it soon with another flavor just as good as that one.

                        3. I miss the old version of TJ's Shredded BBQ (used to be in tubs, found in the refrigerator section - already cooked - just heat and eat). TJ's carried this version back in 2006/2007, and the bbq sauce was milder and not quite so spicy compared to what they are now carrying in stock.

                          1. It looks like the Simply Sliced Roast Chicken trolley mentioned on the old yea/nay thread is gone, at least from my area. I didn't get to try it :-(

                            1. When I saw this thread heading "Discontinued at Trader Joe's" I wondered if there would be enough room in the computer for such a list...................every time I find a TJ product that I like, POOF, as if by magic, it disappears.

I second that emotion. I've said this before, but apparently their business model is to regularly discontinue the 10--15% of items that are the slowest sellers. I simply cannot get my head around this, as there will always be slower-selling items.

                                1. re: Steve Green

I believe it's because they are constantly trying new things, and when one of them is ready for prime time, something has to give. Culinary Darwinism. That said, I wish they would discontinue other people's favorites instead of mine! I told the honcho at my local store that if they brought back the mango chicken sausage, they'd sell a package every week or two to me.

                                  1. re: Steve Green

They have to make space somewhere for the new stuff.

                                    1. re: Steve Green

Often the reason is that the supplier can/will no longer supply them with the amount of product they need, or at a price that is viable for TJ's. They no longer have random blocks of white chocolate in the holiday season because Ghirardelli stopped selling it to them. For smaller producers unable to meet the demand, some items can fall victim to their own popularity. All that said, I STILL suspect that a surveillance camera records what I put into my cart and marks those items for the graveyard!

                                      1. re: Steve Green

Perhaps I have just been a little extra fortunate lately, but for the *most part* what I have liked and purchased from TJ's the past couple of years is still there. I have noticed that there continues to be turnover of product, but has anyone else noticed that they either 1)aren't discontinuing items as fast lately as before or 2) what they are discontinuing are products that were not too popular in the first place, thus not so beloved by the loyal followers. Also, appears as though the TJ's discontinued list on this site has reduced in size.

Again, maybe I have just gotten lucky.....interesting to see if anyone else shares in my opinion.

                                        1. re: littleflower

Unless something we buy regularly is discontinued, how would we know? Except by reading this forum. TJ's web site doesn't include a complete list of what they do sell, let alone what they don't. If something you like isn't there, the store manager will tell you if it's discontinued or temporarily out of stock. That's really all I want to know.

                                    2. I hardly go, but went looking for the following 3 items to take to a party.. has anyone seen them OR are they discontinued?
                                      --Trader Jacques' Macaron aux Framboises
                                      --Fat Free Caramel Corn
--Soy Delicious--has this brand been replaced by a TJ-version? Maybe that happened a long time ago, I never purchase ice cream... since the 90s.

We saw small bags of caramel corn at our Mid-Atlantic TJ's...not sure if it was fat free or not though.

                                        1. re: littleflower

Thanks that is good to know it exists--there is hope. (I think it is always 'fat-free' which basically means nothing since it has sooo much sugar.)

                                      2. The boxes of curry tuna. We love the hot red curry ones.

I read somewhere that the red and green tuna curries are seasonal items. What season(s)? I dunno.

I hope so! I keep looking every time.

Not seasonal. The tuna in curry, both red & green, is discontinued.

                                          2. Caramelized Nut Trio is confirmed gone. I am a very unhappy camper. If anyone sees any leftovers in their stores, please consider letting me pay you to ship them to me. Seriously.

Oh nuts. Holiday potlucks I usually toss those nuts onto kettle corn.. plus butter/brown-sugar. Then white chocolate. It took 10 minutes because of that Trio. Maybe TJ will come out with an edition that is even greater...... we can hope..

I emailed them demanding a reason. (Well, I was very nice about it.) I am in mourning ;-(

There is a bagged spinach salad that comes with a dressing and cranberries and sugared pecans.. the sugared pecans are KIND-OF similar if you're really in need of a quick-fix. But it is in No Way the same thing.

                                                  1. re: GraceW

Thanks Grace. There is a little kiosk in the mall nearby that has butter toffee nuts. They are very tasty, especially the pecans, but much more expensive.

                                                    1. re: Rilke

Rilke, do you know if the new honey-roasted sliced almonds are at all similar?

                                                      1. re: GraceW

Hey Grace. Those aren't caramelized and are therefore not as sugary, but they are quite tasty in their own right. I have been nursing my Trio loss with those as well as the pecan pralines, which are probably the closest thing in the store to the Trio.

                                                        1. re: Rilke

Today I saw separate bags of 'candied pecans,' candied walnuts and a bag of 'sweet and spicy nuts'... I am not sure if any of those would replace the trio, and I am sure you have seen them, but I figured I'd mention it.

(The honey roasted slivered nuts were good, but they also make me realize how often I used to pick the slivered nuts out of Honey Bunches of Whatever--back when I was a kid. Unbeknownst to my family. If only they could have made those earlier!)

In the plastic tub, rather . . . caramelized pieces of almond, cashew, and walnut. Crunchy, addictively sweet, a little salty. I still miss 'em -sniff-

                                              3. I just found out that they discontinued the decaffeinated instant coffee (with the orange top) and I'm really bummed out about it. They said something about them not selling well but I'm not really sure that I buy that excuse. I loved that stuff and now I'm not sure what to replace it with.

I will have to call my father and let him know...that is the only coffee that he would drink - he loved how good TJ's instant decaf coffee tasted. Also, he cannot take caffeine well, so the regular TJ's instant coffee is out as a choice.

                                                  1. re: Erika RollerGirl

The Trader Joe's here is fully stocked with the decaffeinated instant coffee - you may want to check with someone else at your store to make sure it wasn't just out of stock. The only other explanation for mine still carrying it is that they are just finishing the last of the stock they have on hand then that's it.

                                                    1. re: Erika RollerGirl

In NYC - the tags for instant decaf were still up on the shelf but a higher-up told me that it had been discontinued due to 'lack of sales'. I called around the stores in my area and none of them any more on the shelf.

I cannot swear to this, but some preliminary research on my part indicates that Colcafe MAY be the supplier of TJ's instant coffee, and they DO still make decaf.

This was indeed discontinued in June, but my TJ's actually still has some. You should call around and see if any around you have some left.

yes! i just went looking for a jar yesterday and got the bad news. i don't drink it, but i use it to flavor smoothies and such. SO disappointed - it beats the pants off the other jarred decaf instants like Taster's Choice and Folgers.

                                                        2. Haven't seen the frozen artichoke hearts or the frozen sugar snap peas at the TJ's that is now nearby our home. Purchased these awhile ago at a larger TJ's in another city so perhaps they are still carrying them just not at my TJ's. We especially LOVED the artichoke hearts and always grabbed a few extra packs, but we are almost out the last pack that we have been rationing since!

Congratulations on getting a TJ's in Sarasota and if you haven't already do check out this other TJ's Yay/Nay link: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/856872 . Have fun trying out new items!

Employees say an item needs to do very well in at least 90 stores or it gets the ax. I was wondering whether this item's high sodium content might have scared off some buyers. To me, it was worth venturing into 1,000-mg territory as a splurge.

                                                                    1. re: jimdiego

I don't drink coffee, so this is morning caffeine fix, and I am dragging every morning now until I can find a substitute? It is probably relatively easy to make, but I would much rather buy it. If anyone has any idea where else to get it, please let me know.

I have not seen the chocolate or yellow cake mixes in my last several visits, or the frosting mixes that they were carrying. I hope they come back after the holidays. The chocolate cake mix was really good for a mix and didn't have a lot of crap in it. I'm embarrassed to admit that I also used the frosting mix once or twice, which seems both lazy and foolish, since it's not really any harder to make a simple powdered sugar frosting from scratch.

I kept mine in the pantry for probably a year and when I went to use them they were spoiled. I thought most everything had to have an expiration date.

What happened to the Multigrain crackers that came in a cellophane wrapped in a long box that were usually displayed over the frozen food section? My sister-in-law said they recently disappeared from the West Hartford, CT store. I'm in Charleston, SC right now, and they don't have any here either. All they have are the inferior (to me anyway) Savory crackers.

                                                                                            1. The individual shelf-stable milks are gone. This is no culinary disaster, but it does mean I have to go to Whole Foods, which I loathe, once in a while to get a case of them for the kids.

I have not had to purchase any recently since we have a pretty good stock left here in the house, but would be sad to see them go from TJ's.

But I suspect the cast off your lines strawberry licorice and the Mexican-style stone ground chocolates are on the chopping block because the prices have dropped considerably-- to $0.99 and $1.49, respectively.

I asked the stock guy and he thought it was gone for good! He said it wasn't a big seller. Well, my teenage son sure loved it. I haven't broken the news to him yet.
