1st Anniversary Dinner Advice

Hello. Looking for some suggestions for our first anniversary dinner. Obviously someplace special and romantic. We were going to go Eleven Madison Park but in a effort to be a bit more frugal we are looking for a place a notch below that (financially speaking). Seafood/Vegetarian/Local would be awesome in some form or another. Manhattan or Brooklyn work. Oh, we want to dress up as well. My wife will be wearing her wedding dress. Its a beautiful non-white dress, not a tradtional one. Thanks!

How much do you want to spend, per person, before tax, tip, wine/drinks?

I would say our cap would be $100 per person before all the additional costs. Our target would be closer to $80.

If you're able to go to lunch instead, EMP or Del Posto would fall well within your budget. In one sense it's more romantic to go in the daytime and have a more intimate, quiet meal, and you can see a concert or play at night. If it falls on a weekend, though, I wouldn't tangle with brunch crowds.

Neither EMP or Del Posto are open for weekend lunch.

Very good idea regarding lunch. Our anniversary is on a weekday. I will consider that.

Very nice place. Unfortunately I went there for a special dinner with my ex!

Annisa, maybe? we've had two really good meals there in the last year, there is a lot of fish on the menu (and its really really well done) though the lamb dish with "south african flavors" was, i think, my favorite of all the courses at both dinners.

I've been to Annisa. I really liked it. Unfortunately, again with the ex. I will go back but not for an anniversary dinner. One of the consequences of having a foodie for an ex is that I've been to a lot of places which is a good and bad thing.

As of now I'm torn between EMP for lunch or splurging on the 4 course dinner. I don't want to spend that much on dinner but I know it will be amazing. Will still consider other options.

FYI it has been observed that the food served between lunch and dinner is identical, at EMP. It is theorized that they charge more for dinner due to supply v.s. demand and cultural reasons. Reference: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/854714

If you want to be 100% sure, you could call them and ask.

1 year isn't too long bro I wouldn't go overboard. Make a reservation at Esca, you won't regret it.

I disagree. Every year is special and a milestone to a life together. Celebrate it any way you feel is appropriate.
