Persian or afghan food in Toronto

My husband and I are in Toronto for a couple of days. We don't have any persian or afghan food in our home town....so we always look for it when we travel. Any recommendations in Toronto? Thanks!

Thanks so much for the great tips! We ended up eating at Pomegranate...and it was fantastic! Whenever we are back in Toronto, we'll be sure to be back. And hopefully have time to try some of the other recommendations. Thanks again!

While not strictly Persian or Afghan, 93 Harbord scratches my itch for Middle Eastern flavour explosions that I associate with Persian and Afghan cuisine and less with Lebanese. Dishes make use of sumac as in Persian cooking. It also reminded me of a fantastic meal I had at Afghan Horsemen in Vancouver. I personally prefer it to Banu.

Pomegranate is a nice little Persian restaurant at 420 College Street (@ Bathurst). They specialize in tasty stews served with aromatic basmati rice, while its sister restaurant Sheherzade, located next door (422 College) predominantly serves kebabs.

can you order off both menus (seeing as they are sister restaurants next door to each other), or are you restricted to one or the other?

Banu, 777 Queen Street West. Queen and Euclid main intersection.
          Terrific Persion food.

It has been a year since I was last there, but Bamiyan Kebob is a perennial favourite for Afghan food on this board. You'll find numerous threads about it. It's a small chain, but the one I go to is the original, in a small plaza south and west of Eglinton Ave. E. and Don Mills Rd., in the heart of the east-end Afghan community. I hope you've got a car to get you there. Otherwise, awkward to get to, which is the only reason I don't go more often. Always lively with locals, counter service, tasty kebobs, salads, rice, salad, modest prices. Similar in style to an Afghan McDonald's. Lotsa fun. Seems to me its menu is online.
