Shunji's again...

great stuff.

ankimo.

bleu cheese balls.

toro sushi.

blue fin sushi.

tempura zuchinni with minced shrimp.

baby yellowtail sushi.

white sardine sushi.

torched barrucuda sushi.

i have to say that the ankimo and blue cheese balls are pretty incredible and exceptional.

Glad you finally went! What was the damage? Were those single-piece orders (he sometimes does it if it's not too busy) or the standard two-piece orders of sushi?

I think this was kevin's second go round at Shunji...(hence the "again" in his post title). Kevin didn't want to say what he spent the first time so he may well be coy this time too (I asked after his first review and don't recall getting a dollar amount). The list of dishes here looks much more "sushi centered" to me than some of the other ones I've seen, which would be my preference if I can save up enough of my left over lunch money to give it a whirl one of these days...

I knew he had gone before but he's been talking of going again for quite some time, so imagine an implied "again" at the end of your last sentence. :-)

Sorry, my early morning brain is not doing a good job parsing whether you'd rather have more sushi or less sushi in your Shunji lunch. If it's the former, Shunji has a $50 sushi special consisting of 10 pieces of sushi and a hand roll.

sorry guys, my bad, just went again, but even a la carte it's not cheap, and those were single pieces but do to his creativity with the ankimo and blue cheese balls, which you can't get anywhere else you are not just paying for fresh fish and artisty for the cut of the fish like at other sushi bars but also his creative touches and his great cooking skills.

all inclusive it was roughly 80 per with tax and tip, obviously, cheaper than the omakase but i didn't eat that much, just be aware that there is is upcharge for caviar on the ankimo mousse balls.

i saw that 10 pieces and handroll dishes on teh chalkboard but didn't know it was 50 bucks per but that sounds about right considering the prices with everything else there.

and i had about five pieces, incl one of toro, and the ankimo appe (there are three balls with each appetizer order), the shrimp tempura, two order of blue cheese balls. so basically 8 dishes if you count each as a separate order.

i'm pretty sure you won't be able to get out of here for less than 65 per, if you are really trying to go easy on the wallet but think on more like at least 75 to 85 per even if you do go the non-omakase route.
